Guardian Technologies Manual Ultrasonic Humidifier

30 03 2007

Why should I use a humidifier? People need a certain level of humidity to be comfortable. In the winter, indoor humidity can be extremely low and the lack of humidity can dry out your skin and mucous membranes. Low humidity also makes the air feel colder than it actually is. Dry air can also dry out the wood in the walls and floors of our houses. As the drying wood shrinks, it can cause creaks in floors and cracks in drywall and plaster. Dry air also increases static electricity.

Does the product require regular cleaning? Regular cleaning is recommended. However, the Germ Guardian Manual (H-2000) humidifier has nano-silver technology in the water tank which helps to prevent microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and viruses from growing in the water that is vaporized.

When storing the unit, it is recommended to pour any excess water out of the unit and clean it with a damp, soft cloth. Let dry completely before storing.

Are there any wicks or evaporating pads to replace? No. There are not any wicks or pads to replace.

What is ultrasonic technology? An ultrasonic humidifier uses a metal diaphragm vibrating at an ultrasonic frequency to create water droplets. Thanks to ultrasonic technology the Germ Guardian™ humidifier is virtually silent when running, making it easy to have on while you sleep.

What is Nano-Silver technology and why is it used in your humidifier? Throughout history, silver has been recognized as one of the most efficient germicides known. Silver is known to kill some 650 species of bacteria or viruses simply by coming into contact with them. Now small particles of silver (1 billionth of a meter) can be used efficiently as an antimicrobial agent in products. Germ Guardian™ chose to use nano-silver in the water tank of the H-2000 to help prevent the growth of microbes in the water such as bacteria, viruses and fungi. Therefor the water in the tank is free of contaminants and healthy vapor is sent out into the air.

Where should I use the product? It is recommended that you place the product up and not on the floor. Placing it on a table or nightstand during operation is suggested.

What is a comfortable humidity level? Fifty-five to sixty-five percent humidity is considered within the comfortable range. Any humidity level below thirty percent is considered dry.

What temperature is the water at for cold and warm humidification? Cold humidification the water is maintained at forty degrees Fahrenheit. For warm humidification the water is maintained at righty degrees Fahrenheit to disinfect low temperature bacteria.

How do I choose warm or cold humidification? Choosing warm or cold humidification is based on your preference. Warm moisture tends to make the air in the room feel warmer due to the warm vapor being released into the air. In contrast, cool moisture generally has the opposite effect, causing the air to feel cooler.

Therefor, if you live in a warm climate, you may prefer a cool moisture humidifier, while those who live in colder climates may prefer a warm moisture humidifier.

Do I need to heat the water first if I want to have warm humidification? No. It is recommended to put room temperature water into the tank for humidifying. The Germ Guardian™ humidifier will heat and maintain the water temperature at eighty degrees for warm humidification.

Do I need to put in a certain type of water for my humidifier to work? You can use either distilled or regular tap water. If you have a high mineral content in your tap water, it may be preferable to use distilled water. Since distilled water is likely to contain lower mineral content than most tap water it will prevent less build-up.

How much does the Germ Guardian Ultrasonic Humidifier cost? The Germ Guardian™ Manual Humidifier (model: H-2000) retails for $169.99.

How long is the warranty? The warranty is 2-years limited. For detailed warranty specifications please refer to the warranty section in the instruction manual.

Breville Ikon Brushed Stainless Steel Electric Kettle

29 03 2007

At the 1932 Melbourne Cup, Bill O’Brien, a radio salesman, and Harry Norville, an engineer, placed a bet on 4-1 pony ‘Peter Pan’, and won. Despite tough economic times, the two decided to invest their winnings and started “Breville Radio”. But by the late ’50s, television had all but replaced the radio, and as such Breville’s focus turned to small appliances.

John O’Brien, (Bill’s son) quickly became passionate in the growing small appliance business; founding the Breville Research and Development center in 1972. Two years later, the world’s first scissor-action sandwich maker was invented, selling 400,000 units in its first year—one of the most successful product launches in Australian history. Today, from New Zealand to the UK, toasted sandwiches are still affectionately called ‘Brevilles’, so much so that the term has been added to the Australian dictionary. The sandwich maker’s success was soon followed by the iconic ‘Kitchen Wizz’ food processor, together with a range of high-performance, time-saving appliances such as blenders, dairy bars, yogurt makers and waffle irons. By the early ’80s Breville had established an office in Hong Kong, and was exporting its innovations to 15 countries.

During the ’90s, Breville’s hometown of Sydney had become one of the world’s most multicultural city with a craving for fresh, healthy foods and a taste for Mediterranean and Asian cuisine. Breville’s revolutionary innovations like the high-wall heating electric wok, the health grill, panini press and award-winning Juice Fountain and espresso machines, brought Sydney’s café culture to millions of homes around the world. In 2001, Breville’s merger with Australian kitchenware company HWI, helped support the expansion of Breville’s Centre of Design.

The Breville Ikon Electric Tea Kettle SK550XL boasts breathtaking design and top of the line functionality at a bargain price. The Breville Ikon SK550XL is an electric hot water kettle with no wires attached to the kettle. The Cord free design has a power base that is plugs into the wall outlet and the kettle is simply placed on top of the power base to make the electrical connection. Simply lift off the base to serve. The stainless steel design is as durable as it is beautiful. A concealed heating element makes for easier cleanup. A blue backlight shows the water level and adds to the beauty of this kettle. With the electric heating element imbedded in the kettle, water is heated up quickly - faster than a typical stove top kettle. A safer way of boiling water - no more leaving pots on the burner - the auto shutoff prevents boiling dry.

Here is a Review on Join Epinions; “Just purchased the Breville Electric Kettle in February of 2006 on line and paid about $79.00 for it. I do have to say that the price seemed quite high for me but now after using it for a while I think it is well worth the money. This appliance is a great addition to any kitchen for many reasons including design, functionality and overall look of the product. The design is very simple and easy to use and heats up almost twice as fast as the old electric kettle we had. Also the cord wraps underneath to have a nice and neat looking counter top. The power button has a very pleasing blue glow and turns off when the water has boiled.”

With their sleek, cord-free design and brushed stainless steel base and bodies, Breville’s electric tea kettles are functional beauties. Both heat up on a power base that plugs into the wall and rests on the base when not in use—multi-directional base includes cord storage. Powerful 1500-watt, concealed element rapidly brings water to a boil and the auto shutoff feature prevents kettle from boiling dry. Blue backlight indicates the water level. Blue-tinted lid lifts slowly due to internal dampening mechansim. Removable scale filter. Hand wash. Limited one-year warranty. Available online only.

The Advantage of Steam-Cooking…

28 03 2007

There are lots of advantages on steaming your food versus cooking, baking, or frying. The biggest advantage of putting the herbs and spices in the steamer while the food is cooking….is that the foods can now absorb the flavors all throughout the steaming process. On the contrary, when frying, stove top cooking, or baking, the spices and flavors, and nutrition slowly fade away.

Let’s not forget the “health issue”….

Of course, steaming is a lot healthier and lowfat!

We suggest this “stay-healthy” model from “Richard Simmons” collection….

Richard Simmons Steam Heat Triple Compartment Food Steamer

28 03 2007

Here is what Richard has to say; As you know, throughout my life I’ve written books and created videos, FoodMovers, and other tools to help you get healthy and stay that way. Well, 10 years ago, I was having dinner in a fancy restaurant, and everything seemed to be overcooked. That’s when a new idea came into my head - an idea that would help you cook delicious and nutritious meals easily. Yes, on that day, my dream to steam was born! A year and a half ago, I took my idea to Salton, the leading manufacturer of kitchen appliances. They loved it, and they made my dream come true! Now my baby, “Steam Heat,” is available on websites and in stores throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe! Oh, and be sure you keep your eyes open for my “Steam Heat” infomercial!

Like me, you will certainly be surprised by how many delicious meals this steamer can make! And you know, you get more nutrients by steaming your foods than from any other way of cooking them. If you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, or other medical problems, eating healthy foods can lead you to a healthy body. So read all about my “Steam Heat” steamer below, and get ready to steam those pounds away! - Love, Richard

Endorsed by fitness-guru Richard Simmons, this electronic food steamer features three individually controlled steaming compartments, so each food is steamed and ready simultaneously. Use all compartments at once, or only one or two. The middle heater provides 650 watts of power; the left and right heaters deliver 500 watts each. By setting the timer, three types of food can be cooked at different times, but finish all at the same time. Cook eggs, rice, vegetables, fruit, fish, and more. An audible signal indicates when food is ready. Steaming begins 30 seconds from the start time with the “express steam” setting, and each compartment can be set to cook for the same amount of time by using the direct-start function. The unit can also be set to keep food warm for one hour before automatically shutting off.

Power LED lights, an LCD display with a blue backlight, and an electronic control panel with five function keys provide added ease of use. An audible tone signals to add more water when levels fall low, and overheat and boil-dry protection ensure safe operation. Other highlights include a 2-2/5-liter water-tank capacity, a water-level indicator, an external water inlet for convenient refilling, built-in egg holders, and non-marking and non-slip feet. Top-rack dishwasher-safe compartments make cleanup a snap and a cooking bowl for steaming rice, sauces, cheesecake, and more is included. The food steamer measures 13 by 14 by 11 inches.

Electronic controls: select individual steaming times for each compartment so all of the contents are cooked to perfection and ready at the same time.

Sam Writes: Steam Heat has so many features that can’t be found on a standard vertical steamer. The best feature is that I can program different times for differnet types of food so that each is steamed to perfection and they are all ready at the same time. The steamer switches to keep warm mode for 60 minutes after the food has finished steamer so that is really cool too.

Another plus, because of the horizontal design, the flavors stay in their own bowl and don’t mix with the other foods being steamed.

I made a deliciously decadent chocolate cake in the steamer too. Yes, you can make desserts in the Steam Heat as well as healthy breakfasts, lunches, dinners and appetizers too. If you thought steaming was just for fish and veggies, think again.

  • Three individual Heaters; one for each Tray, Use all three at once or select to only use one or two compartments
  • Express Steam; unit begins steaming 30 seconds from the start time.
  • Electronic Control Panel has 5 Function Keys.
  • Power LED Lights.
  • LCD Display with blue backlight.
  • Direct Start Function if you wish to have each compartment cook for the same amount of time.
  • Keep warm with 1-hour auto shut off.
  • 2-2/5-liter water tank
  • Auto Keep Warm for One Hour then Auto Off.
  • Audible Signal When food is ready.
  • Heaters: 650W for the middle heater and 500W for the left and right heaters

Jack LaLanne’s JFPJ-B Power Juicer Juicing Machine

27 03 2007

The original juicing machine! This powerful, electric home juicer is one of the classic “As Seen On TV” products — and is used and endorsed by the legendary fitness guru Jack LaLanne. Featuring patented juice extraction technology, an extra-large feeder tube, a whisper-quiet 3,600 RPM motor and a surgical quality stainless steel blade, this commercial quality unit is up to any juicing task. When through juicing, the unit is easy to clean for the next use. Comes with recipe/instruction booklet.

It will do anything that has a consistency even remotely close to an apple. Any of your solid fruits veggies, carrot, cucumber, beat, kohlrabi, potato, fennel anything like that. Now it dose have some draw backs, the screen gets clogged on a regular bases, the entrance mouth thoe nice for hole things dose not like small stuff. Parsley for example needs to be put in densely or waded up, even then there is still a good about of pulp from small stuff you put it. The pulp that comes out if farley dry, but when the screen gets full the pulp is typical of low end centrifugal juicers.

Now here is what I like, IT’S QUIET!!!, no really you can actually use an “inside voice” while juicing (a vary pleasant surprise that, that was true), POWER it’s got power to spare the base IS the motor, one big induction motor. It has not slowed down excessively yet, not one time. From what I’ve used in the past it’s short comings are made up buy how easy and fast it is to clean. I only juice about a glass at a time so this may not apply to you… but for me it takes every bit of 8 minutes to clean AND dry after juicing total. All you got to do is use the sprayer before it dries up. Also it seems to be holding up to stains, but again I fully clean it soon after juicing.

I’ve seen many juicers and had a few my self, this is not the best one but for around $100 it not a bad deal for moderate home use. [If you buy it here, it’s not $100..]

If you are having trouble with this juicer, you probably are not using it corectly. It takes some practice to know how to use best juice certain fruits and vegetables and how much you can push through at a time. Once you get the hang of it, it is smooth sailing. You also do not need to clean it every use. Just rinse it thoroughly with hot water. I wash it every few days in the dish washer. I use mine at least once per day and I love it. I will never go back to store bought juice. For the price, this juicer rocks and I am very satisfied.

Product Features:

  • Special patented juice extraction technology
  • Extra-large round feeder
  • Super sized detachable pulp collector
  • 3,600 RPM motor has lifetime guarantee and whisper quiet operation
  • Commercial Quality with Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval
  • Bonus Power Juicing Recipe Guide
  • Built-In Safety Features
  • Pulp Collector
  • Dishwasher Safe
  • Surgical-Quality Stainless
  • Steel Blade
  • Commercial Quality

Get in Shape for Spring! Start Juicing….

27 03 2007

There are lots of benefits from “fresh fruit” and “vegetable juicing.” The important point is that the juice is fresh and in its raw natural state, which means that it is not treated by heat in any way.
Cooking also kills some foods - Proteins, Vitamins, Minerals and Enzymes are all destroyed or transformed into a less beneficial state by heat.

Juicing can also help weight loss……

So why not start giving your body the nourishment that it is designed for and experience those benefits for yourself?

Diet Excuses!….Do You Fit In??

27 03 2007

A friend of mine had overcome her weight battle successfully in about 8 weeks! How? She claims she went with a lot of her own “fresh fruit juicing” and slowly added some small meals. So last week I decided to follow her example and jump-start this new trend. But - DAY ONE - came and went and never started! Every day I really had a different excuse!

1. I was invited to my friend’s engagement party…I had to eat…I felt left out because they were all eating.
2. Next day…I had a diet tuna plate - but to get the bitter taste - “fish smell,” out of my mouth, I had to eat something sweet….as in “ice cream.”
3. After reading about “The kids overseas are starving, so naturally I had to clean my plate.
4. The day after….It was my birthday, so I had to eat my personal birthday cake!….etiquette rules!
5. Then I overheard…..”If you fatten up everyone else around you, then you look thinner!”

And is it true….When you eat with someone else, calories don’t count if you don’t eat more than they do?

I sit and wonder - Am I alone on this or do I have company??

I Wonder Why my “Husband” Has a Backache!

27 03 2007

I knew what caused my backache….but why would HE have a Backache?!
It was only a year ago, when we went out for the day - on a shopping spree to the huge “Woodbury Common Mall”…. - in Harriman, NY. After four hours of browsing (and carrying 2 shopping bags of purchases) I felt my back breaking! I told my friends that I need to take a break….and so did they. We sat down and rested until my “back pain” subsided a little.
We continued strolling the mall hoping to accomplish everything on our shopping list. I was almost successful….and had to stop short after another two hours…..due to my stressful pain in my back.
I approached my awaiting husband in the parking lot - where he was in the meantime (enjoying) watching some DVD’s in the car, and I’m complaining about my back breaking in half.
Imagine what his reply was….”and do you have any idea how sore my back feels sitting here almost five hours!”

And I thought he is relaxing!!

“We used to often wander

To places near and far

Now we get backaches

From riding in the car!”
